Highlights:

In the 4th quarter of 2020, Angolan GDP contracted 5.4% compared to the same period in 2019 – a slight improvement compared to the 6.2% yoy recorded in the 3rd quarter of 2020. This is the 6th consecutive quarter of decrease. The fall was particularly significant in the oil sector (-10.8% yoy), as well as in the construction sector, where economic activity shrank 41.5%.
In 2020 as a whole, the Angolan economy shrank 5.2% yoy, the 5th consecutive year of decline, following drops of 2.6%, 0.2%, 2.1% and 0.6% between 2016 and 2019. The oil sector contracted by 8%, while the non-oil economy will have decreased by around 4% according to our estimate.
